A lovely part of the world

West Mead Cottage is in the ancient village of Thornton Hough, set deep in the Wirral countryside.

The iconic Liver Building in Liverpool

This idyllic, but central, location in the northwest of England is only 10 miles from Liverpool and Chester, an hour away from Manchester and Snowdonia, and two hours from the Peak District and the Lake District. It is, quite simply, the perfect base for every type of visitor: those who seek strenuous outdoor pursuits, dedicated shoppers, history and culture seekers and peace-loving potterers. And with Clatterbridge regional oncology centre on our doorstep, we are also the best imaginable home-from-home for anyone needing local accommodation during a spell of outpatient treatment.

Golfer at Brackenwood Golf Club

There is no need to leave the peninsula to find lots to enjoy and divert. Wirral has absolutely beautiful countryside and coastline, including 50 miles of walking and cycle routes – much of it on the flat, and perfect for less energetic visitors. And if a walk with a ball and a club appeals, there are no fewer than 14 golf courses to choose from!

Absolutely everything anyone could want is within very easy reach – from excellent eateries to ancient castles, from huge outlet shopping villages to thatched country pubs, from big city buzz to blissful peace and solitude.

A visit to West Mead is always time very well spent.
